Ford Latest Ride Puts Baby to Sleep

Ask any parents of a newborn, and they will mention sleepless nights that ends with a ride around the block to put a baby to sleep. Something about the white noise and the gentle rocking is well-known among parents to have a soothing effect on the infant and help the little one nod off.   A 2013 study conducted by Ergoflex states that parents of newborn lost the equivalent of 44 days in the baby’s first year, while a Mothercare research has shown that new parents drive on average 1,322 miles a year in an attempt to put their babies to sleep. One can’t help but wonder which Ford engineer suffered one sleepless night too many ending with an aimless drive and decided to take the matter into his hand.

Ford is not a company that one associates with baby wellness and products, but it may have done the deeds and save parents from sleepless nights and midnight car rides. At first sight, a regular baby crib, the cleverly-named Max Motor Dreams, connects to a smartphone app. This app enables to record and then reproduce the comforting movement, lights, and sounds of a soothing car ride, all within the comfort of the home.

“After many years of talking to moms and dads, we know that parents of newborns are often desperate for just one good night’s sleep. But while a quick drive in the family car can work wonders in getting baby off to sleep, the poor old parents still have to be awake and alert at the wheel,” said Max Motor Dreams designer Alejandro López Bravo, of Spanish creative studio Espada y Santa Cruz in a press statement, which produced the award-winning design. “The Max Motor Dreams could make the everyday lives of a lot of people a little bit better.”

Unfortunately, the crib is presently a one-off pilot but the demands and inquiries from parents may be too great to ignore and could result in the unique crib going into full‑scale production.
