‘Jane the Virgin’ season 4 premiered Friday, October 13 with the creator and showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman promising to “bring back the joy” from season 1, and moving away from the sadness of late season 3, during which Jane played by Gina Rodriguez experienced the death of Michael Cordero (Brett Dier), her husband. Season 4 promises new joy with Adam (Tyler Posey) a love interest from the past and the show original youthful energy. According to Urman, Season 4 takes a fresh approach to the love triangle dilemma and with the principal characters changed circumstances will explore a different storyline than the one seen when she was torn between Michael and Rafael. And in this case with Petra (Yael Grobglas) back in the picture fighting for Justin, it’s really more of a quadruple than a triangle.
Season 4 now holding a new Friday airing slot will only have 17 episodes, each contained as a full story. The show will present six full stories in every episode, without real cliff hangers. Each episode will stand on its own and will continue to parody telenovas lovingly.
Jane is 28 and she has a whole lot of life left to lead and we wanted to see her reclaiming some of her joy, realizing that she’s not only a mother, but that she also has a big, fun life ahead of her and she’s still young,” Urman said during an interview.
Gina Rodriguez reached out to her fans via Instagram and invited them to welcome the new actor playing her son:
