Spotify Launches RISE to capitalize on Up and Coming Artists

Troy Carter believes that there’s never been a greater time for streaming celebrities

The audio, video and podcast streaming platform, Spotify, today launched a program for up and coming music artists called RISE. With an audience of just over 140 million listeners, the streaming service will utilize their marketing resources to capitalize on the talents of musicians exclusively found on Spotify. These four voices vary in sound starting with the pop artist, Kim Petras; San Francisco-based pop rocker Luav; Country Gold Playlist artist Russel Dickerson; and ending with the unique rap vocals of Trippie Redd.

Spotify Global Head of Creator Services, Troy Carter, said that his company is “committed to supporting the careers of artists of every level, including the next generation of global superstars [and] RISE is a powerful platform and an investment towards the future of emerging artists and the fans who discovered them first.” Carter envisions that Spotify will provide “significant resources” for these artists through individual background content creating experiential video/audio exposés. With plans of capturing creative talent from the U.S., U.K., and Canada, RISE will support the careers of 16 artists per year.

This angle is perfect for artists that really want to take their music exposure to the next level. Yesterday, Billboard announced that they will more fairly measure the presence of songs found on subscription-based services like Spotify and Apple Music. Staff from the company wrote, “In recognition of an evolving music market and the means that consumers engage with music, Billboard has decided to implement changes on how it incorporates streaming data into our charts.” Now being a Spotify celebrity can seriously pay off! RISE also helps with the company’s image of having a troublesome relationship with artists. After being criticized for unfair compensation from artists such as Taylor Swift, the streaming platform announced in April that artists can release new albums exclusively on their premium service.
