In my ongoing search for age defying, ethical, cruelty-free, and harsh chemical-free skincare, I have gone thru a considerable length of experimentation. It has ranged from cleaning my face with pure olive oil (anti-aging antioxidants) followed up by rubbing a lemon (skin brightener) and applying plain yogurt mixed with honey as a mask for moisture (yummy). Natural for sure, but not pleasant and hard to maintain as a daily routine. In the past year, I have tested skin care lines from the Dead Sea, various organic products, and science-based products, who all made great promises but delivered poorly.

The past two years have been a rock and roll ride of hormonal changes for me, and my skin has grown noticeably dryer, with the appearance of fine lines around my eyes and on my forehead and to my chagrin dark circles that gave me a haunted look. Not one to accept the inevitability of aging without a good fight but also not inclined to resort to surgery, fillers or botox; I embarked on a search for a skincare line that would give me resounding results while being aligned with my cruelty-free ethics. As I was investigating the latest development in skincare, stem cell-based products were often mentioned by the skincare professionals that I approached, but most didn’t adhere to a cruelty-free philosophy and are tested on animals.

But What Are Plant Stem Cells?

Plant stem cells are undifferentiated cells found in the meristems, region of cells capable of division and growth in plants. Just like human stem cells, plant stem cells self-renew and replace specific plant cells that are in need of repair. For skincare, the plant stem cells are harvested in labs kept away from pollution and pesticides. With this approach, the scientists can adhere to the highest quality and quantity control over the anti-aging substance the plant produces. The technology also gives them access to purer ingredients because they don’t have to worry about toxins or chemicals sneaking in from an outside source.

100% Non-GMO Project Verification On Every Single Product

Further research led me to Andalou Naturals, a northern-based California company that prides itself on only using non-GMO verified ingredients in the making of its plant stem cells beauty-care line. As a matter of facts, in 2011, the company website states that “Andalou Naturals became the first personal care brand to achieve 100% Non-GMO Project Verification on every single product.” For more specifics, about the company innovations, read the following.

30-day Regimen

I committed to a 30-day skin care regimen using only Andalou Naturals’ products and discarding all others, and paid close attention to any improvements or lack of on my skin, with a particular focus on my problem areas but also my hands and my chest area. I saw improvements in all areas. Andalou Naturals supplied with three lines: Age Defying, Brightening, and Quenching, each with their own characteristics and benefits.

Age Defying with Resveratrol Q10 Gets my Vote

Hands down the Age Defying with resveratrol Q10 line is my 2017  Editor Pick Winner.

I used the entire line for one month with glowing results. I saw my persistent frown lines and crows feet diminish drastically, while the overall firmness of my skin improved by 25%, with a newfound elasticity, not to mention that the products have a delightful smell and textures, and are most pleasant. My only complaint was that the Age Defying line wasn’t treating my dark circles and didn’t offer an eye serum. Luckily the Luminous Eye serum from the Brightening line came to the rescue and noticeably lightened up my dreaded dark circles.

Application

The line is so rich in nutrients that I highly recommend that you let the milky cleaner soak in before rinsing it off, then after spraying your face with the tonic, pat your face, finally massage in the serum and cream. Don’t forget to tap gently around the eyes the serum, which I even applied on my eyelids without any signs of irritations. Spritz your face throughout the day and reapply sunscreen. Morning and night follow this routine. Don’t forget to apply cream and sunscreen to your hands, neck and your chest.
