The 2018 Accord Hybrid by Honda will begin to be showcased at dealerships nationwide starting March 23. Adding to its growing roster of Honda’s electrified vehicles the Accord Hybrid plans to infuse “fun-to-drive performance, efficiency, premium feature content, and comfort in a sophisticated and affordable package ” to midsize cars.
Lower Price than the Previous Model
Hoping to be more affordable, the new Hybrid Accord has reduced its retail price by $4,505 compared to the previous model with a new retail price suggested by the manufacturer (MSRP) 1 of $ 25,100 (excluding $ 890 per destination and handling).
Powertrain
The Honday press statement states that:
The power of the Accord Hybrid 2018 is due to the third generation of Honda’s innovative twin-engine hybrid powertrain that includes a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, inline 4-cylinder, Atkinson DOHC i-VTEC ® timing engine with 40% thermal efficiency and an engine of electric propulsion able to produce 232 lb.-ft. of torque to provide a total class-leading system with 212 horsepower. As in previous models, the twin-engine Accord system works without needing a conventional automatic transmission.
The deceleration selectors installed on the steering wheel help to maximize power generation. Similar to the steering wheel controls, the Accord Hybrid’s deceleration selectors allow the driver to easily switch between four levels of regenerative braking performance. The selector on the right increases regenerative braking and the selector on the left reduces it. The system simultaneously helps to reduce the pressure on the brakes and increase the battery charge through regeneration.
Three Driving Operations
The powertrain of the Accord Hybrid works by changing impeccably between three different driving operations:
EV Drive (100% electric motor), Hybrid Drive (electric motor and gasoline engine [that drives the motor generator]) and Engine Drive (motor gasoline), taking advantage of the power of the gasoline engine and the electric motor in order to adapt to the driving conditions at hand.
Five Accord Hybrids
Addressing the needs and taste of a wider variety of buyers looking to purchase a sedan hybrid, Honda has expanded its line to offer the Accord Hybrids in five versions: Hybrid, EX (new), EX-L, EX-L Navi (new) and Touring.
