Automotive News PACE Award Goes to Visteon for SmartCore ™

The PACE Awards recognizes innovation, technological advancements, and breakthroughs developed by automotive industry suppliers. The yearly event is held in Detroit.

This year, the prestigious Automotive News PACE award goes to Visteon Corporation (Nasdaq: VC) for its industry’s first cockpit domain controller platform SmartCore ™.

” Being honored with an Automotive News PACE Award makes us very proud of Visteon,” said President and CEO Sachin Lawande in a press statement, “SmartCore is a perfect example of how we are committed to technical innovation and leadership in the cockpit Play electronics in cars. ”

The SmartCore offerings will integrate the instrument cluster, a head-up display (HUD) and Visteon’s infotainment platform into a single domain controller. Visteon engineers already are working on integrating lighting, heating and air conditioning displays into near-future versions. By the early 2020s, SmartCore could be controlling telematics, advanced driver assistance system displays, augmented reality head-up displays, vehicle mirrors, surround-view cameras, driver monitoring and rear-seat entertainment — all from a single box.

SmartCore ™ is the industry’s first cockpit domain controller platform to hit the market. The platform, which addresses one of the biggest trends in the cockpit electronics industry, provides a solution for integrating the instrument cluster, infotainment system and other new cockpit technologies into a single system-on-a-chip ( SoC). With SmartCore ™, weight, cost and power consumption can all be reduced – factors that are becoming increasingly important as the industry switches to electric drive technology.

Waheed Ahmed Software Engineering Manager – SmartCore™ Chief Architect wrote in his blog, “SmartCore will play an important role in the transition to self-driving vehicles. When future cars are in the fully autonomous mode, drivers will be able to take their hands and eyes off the road, shifting their focus to screens along the dash. They can view text, images, and video there and interact with the screens, with all this functionality driven seamlessly by a SmartCore domain controller. SmartCore also will integrate input from cameras and other devices monitoring the environment outside the vehicle, so drivers and passengers can receive information about their surroundings.”

SmartCore ™, launched this year in partnership with a global automaker based in Europe, will be part of a series of add-on programs for vehicles that will be launched over the next few years.Visteon is known for developing embedded software solutions for networking multimedia devices and smartphones for the global automotive industry. The company is headquartered in Van Buren Township, with approximately 10,000 employees at over 40 locations in 18 countries.  In 2017,  Visteon achieved sales of $ 3.15 billion.
