Google Forms Partnership with Udacity to Offer Free Job Development Courses

The partnership will benefit job seekers. Great for women who have been out of the job market for a while, seasoned professionals and recently graduated.

Get Job Ready with Google

Google has always provided job seekers information for free through its search engine results. Now the information being made freely available through Google goes beyond just simple searches and expands into job skills training.

On June 5, 2018, Google announced the launch of free online career development courses. Working in partnership with online education platform Udacity, Google will offer 12 free career courses that anyone can enroll into. Even though the program is touted for the recent college graduate, its curriculum can no doubt benefit all job seekers, at whatever level of their profession. Who doesn’t need a course to Refresh your Resume, or learn to work LinkedIn better with a how-to Strengthen Your LinkedIn Network?  And for those in technical branches, courses such Brand to Data Science Interview Prep, VR, Android Interview Prep and other are offered.

In March 2018, the two companies launched a trial course in which Udacity provided scholarships for those enrolled into the Grow with Google program. The success of the trial course led to the launch of 11 additional free courses and programs this month. The Grow with Google curriculum was launched in March 2017 as part of three initiatives. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google said at the time of the announcement, “Grow with Google, is a new initiative to help Americans with the skills they need to get a job or grow their business, in addition we’re offering $1 billion in Google.org grants over five years to nonprofits around the world and 1 million hours that Googlers can volunteer to nonprofits.”

Udacity has a strong history of helping students achieve their career goals and to land rewarding jobs. In 2014 the online learning platform launched Nanodegree programs to help job seekers improve their career options. The recent partnership with Google allows the company to expand its educational offerings.

Kathleen Mullaney, VP of Careers at Udacity said in a blog postOur initial pilot with Google has now been expanded to include 11 more such courses—offering a comprehensive range of valuable career guidance and training. They cover everything from networking and personal branding to technical interview preparation and cover letter optimization. Today, we’re making all 12 of these new Udacity Career courses available for free to learners across the globe!

Grow with Google offers free training, tools, and events designed to help people expand their job skills, broaden career options or improve business prospects.

For job seekers and students, courses include such topics as resume writing, personal branding, interview preparation skills, and applied digital skills training.  Other courses delve into strengthening LinkedIn and GitHub profiles to improve appeal to prospective employers.

For business owners and start-up entrepreneurs, Google also offers a range of free business courses and tool, including online advertising, digital marketing skills training, and tools for helping improve online brand visibility.

Pichai added, “At Google, our mission is to make sure that information serves everyone, not just a few. A child in a school here in Pittsburgh can access the same information on Google as a professor at Carnegie Mellon. In the end, the Internet is a powerful equalizer, capable of propelling new ideas and people forward.”

Google Education

Google also works closely with other online education partners, including Coursera to provide other forms of job skills training, career development opportunities, and further training. The two companies launched the Google IT Support Professional Certificate Specialization, which provided a multi-course certification to anyone wanting to improve IT skills. However, the course is not a part of the free suite of educational courses offered.

Mullaney said, “A Google Android or web developer coding and programming course for is also available, but it’s not part of the free suite of courses and is available for a fee.

Nanodegree program students have long relied on the expertise of our Careers team for years to achieve their career goals. Today, students from every corner of the world can enroll in these courses for free, and use what they learn to find the right job for them.”
