Cool Effect, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to curbing Earth-warming pollution was founded in 2015 by Dee and Richard Lawrence. Proyecto Mirador Foundation was founded in 1998 by Richard with co-founder Doña Emilia Mendoza, and was the first project that inspired Cool Effect to be established. The project is now featured on Cool Effect.
The organization has created this easy-to-follow guide to help all individuals their carbon footprints in their daily habits.
Simple technologies like cookstoves can fight climate change by reducing hundreds of thousands of tonnes of CO₂
Eat less meat.
Livestock accounts for 14.5% percent of global emissions each year. Eat more veggies and try Meatless Mondays.
Fly smarter.
The average economy passenger generates 1.84 tonnes of carbon dioxide when flying from New York to San Francisco (about 2,572 miles). Change, sit in coach and purchase and purchase Cool Effect credits or offsets when possible.
Be closet intelligent.
The average U.S. citizen throws out nearly 70 pounds of textiles annually. Buy less, buy local and purchase items made of longer-lasting materials.
Ease your deliveries.
The average FedEx package is associated with about 9.6 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. Bundle your packages and avoid next day shipping, which makes it harder for delivery services to organize ecient deliveries.
Go with the low-flow.
We could avoid 4.6 gigatons of carbon emissions if 95% of homes switch to low-flow taps and showerheads by 2050. Turn o water while brushing teeth, switch to low-flow taps, and take shorter showers.
Eat with awareness.
If 50% of global food waste is reduced by 2050, 26.2 gigatons of carbon dioxide emissions could be avoided. Plan meals, eat leftovers and buy “ugly” fruits and vegetables.
Think before you drive.
The average American driver emits 2.52 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. Go electric, ride your bike or take public transit.
Lights out.
JFK SFO 1,821 million tonnes 35% of U.S. energy-related carbon dioxide emissions are generated by the electric power sector. That’s about 1,821 million tonnes. And switch to Energy Star bulbs. Turn lights off when you leave the room.
