Day 3 of the Ohana Music festival ended with a bang thanks to notables, Mumford & Sons, Beck, Young the Giant, Switchfoot and Andrew McMahon. The weather was as beautiful as it has been all weekend, and it could not have been a better weekend for the 3-day festival.
Mumford & Sons. (Copyrighted 2018. The Scope Weekly/Neil Van)A homecoming show of sorts as McMahon talked about being home and about going to Doheny high school in Dana Point. Frontman, Sameer Gadhia, of Young the Giant, mentioned the band’s origins in Orange County before proceeding into their track “Superposition,” off their new EP Mirror Master.
Fantastic Negrito. (Copyrighted 2018. The Scope Weekly/Neil Van)Off to end the Tiki Stage, Fantastic Negrito’s Xavier Dphrepaulezz got all the jazz and swagger as his alter ego on stage. The crowd was on their feet dancing and chuckling at his bravado on stage in his lyrics.
Young The Giant. (Copyrighted 2018. The Scope Weekly/Neil Van)Mumford & Sons closed out the festival with a roaring performance. Marcus Mumford provided details of finishing the new album, “Delta” on Friday. Fans were treated to two new tracks, “Woman” and the current new single, “Guiding Light,” during their set. Marcus also mentioned that after playing so many festivals that Ohana was one of the best. Maybe all the excitement got him excited as he made his way through the dense crowd and back during “The Cave.” During the encore, Mumford & Sons brought out Eddie Vedder one last time to rock out to Jimi Hendrix’s “All Along the Watchtower.”
Switchfoot. (Copyrighted 2018. The Scope Weekly/Neil Van)Eddie made a short speech before about what the festival was all about which is the importance of protecting the oceans, a cause that is dear to his heart. A fantastic end to a great weekend and the end of summer!
