Named after a character the Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Gary Sinise made famous in the movie Forrest Gump, theLt. Dan Bandperformed for free this weekend at the Tryon International Equestrian Center. Pegged as an evening of honor, gratitude, and rock & roll to support troops and first responders, Sinise hosted a sold-out event to raise monies for the Gary Sinise Foundation.
“The band plays and supports our troops and supports our first responders at festivals and fundraising events, and this is just going to be a great, great activity,” said Linda Bammann of the Gary Sinise Foundation.
Sinise invited members of the audience to sign books, get their photos taken on stage and was joined by a 9-year-old version of Forrest Gump. On a more serious note, he stressed the importance of recognizing and honoring veterans and first-responders and the issues they are facing today. Leaving politics aside, the message was heard loud and clear by both veterans and members of the audience.
