Run Lola Run starring Franka Potente

The Oxnard Film Society, celebrating its 18th year, will screen the 25th-anniversary edition of the cinematic sensation “Run Lola Run” (“Lola rennt”) on July 15, 2024. The special screenings are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. as part of the Monday Night Foreign Film Series.

“Run Lola Run,” released in 1998, is a landmark German film directed by Tom Tykwer. The film stars Franka Potente as Lola and Moritz Bleibtreu as Manni, delivering a gripping narrative that has thrilled audiences worldwide. The story unfolds with a frantic phone call from Manni, a small-time courier who has lost 100,000 Deutsche Marks needed for his boss, with only 20 minutes to recover it. Lola races through Berlin, making split-second decisions that lead to various life-altering consequences, blurring the lines between fate and fortune.

The film’s original dialogue in German, English, and Japanese will be presented with English subtitles, in line with the Oxnard Film Society’s tradition of showcasing foreign films in their native languages. With a runtime of 1 hour and 21 minutes, “Run Lola Run” is an intense action/mystery/thriller rated R for its mature themes and high-stakes sequences.

The Oxnard Film Society, a non-profit organization (501(c)(3) #20-5734347), has been dedicated to bringing international cinema to the local community for nearly two decades. The 25th-anniversary screening of “Run Lola Run” is a highlight of their ongoing commitment to cultural enrichment through film.
