Bill Schermerhorn: The inspiration came from our personal frustrations with the typical beach experience. Anyone who’s been to the beach knows how sand seems to get everywhere—on towels, in bags, and even in the car. We wanted to address this common issue with a practical solution. Our team spent years developing and refining the beachBUB® Sand-Free Beach System to ensure it effectively keeps sand away while being durable and easy to use. Bill Schermerhorn: The beachBUB Umbrella is the country’s safest and best-selling beach umbrella. We decided to build an umbrella that would withstand a 35 mph gust of wind. And it only weighs 9 lbs. Customers came to us and wanted an umbrella that had those qualities. In researching the marketplace, we found that no umbrella like this existed. So, we began with a semi-sturdy retail umbrella and began identifying weak links with that umbrella, addressing those problems, and solving them. After eight years, we have finally finished developing the world’s best retail umbrella that’s easy to carry, set up, and wind-tested to over 44 mph. Recently, the Consumer Products & Safety Commission issued new standards on beach umbrellas to protect beachgoers. BBUS is the only umbrella currently on the market that complies with the new standard.
