What Happened to Billie Eilish’s Vegan Eatery?

Billie Eilish was in the news recently for urging billionaires to donate more of their money to address the world’s most pressing issues. The Grammy and Oscar winner accepted the music award at this year’s WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards on Wednesday night, telling the crowd:

“We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country…I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it.”

Eilish plans to donate $11.5 million of the proceeds from her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour to causes dedicated to food equity, climate justice and reducing carbon pollution.

Eilish went vegan when she was just 12-years-old, and often uses her platform to advocate plant-based eating.

Which begs the question, what in the world happened to her vegan restaurant, Argento, announced in 2023?

Eilish and her producer brother Finneas O’Connell were set to open a new vegan restaurant, Argento, in Silverlake. Teaming up with restaurateur Nic Adler (son of Lou Adler, the legendary producer and co-owner of the Roxy on Sunset), Argento would feature Mediterranean fare without processed meat alternatives.

Although specific details of Argento’s first-ever menu had yet to be confirmed, it would supposedly focus on whole foods rather than mimicking meat through processed foods. Consciously choosing to let vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruits, and herbs have their time in the sun.

Scooping up Moby’s—also vegan—Little Pine space in Silverlake, the sister-brother duo found Argento’s perfect home. A city known for its creative energy, diverse population, and iconic reservoir. Silverlake features a trendy dining scene, boutique shopping, and modernist architecture.

Speaking to Los Angeles Magazine, Eilish revealed the aim of the restaurant is to make plant-based food ‘more accessible’.

“What’s really cool about Argento and Crossroads, and Donut Friend, is that they’re not branded as ‘vegan’,” the star added.

“Vegan is for everyone. You don’t have to be vegan to eat vegan. The world is much better than it was. Ten years ago there was nothing vegan anywhere, and now it’s so much more universal.”

That sounds wonderful, Billie! We’ve got our fingers crossed that Argento opens soon!

SW Newsmagazine reached out to Eilish’s publicist for an update on Argento, but didn’t hear back at time of publication. We will update the story when additional information is provided.
