HBO’s Euphoria Returns on Sunday, April 12, 2026: Five Years Later, the Chaos is Just Beginning
By Darrah Belle and Anne Howard
Five years have passed since Euphoria last left Rue (Zendaya) and her friends teetering on the edge of adolescence — but the chaos hasn’t slowed. The Emmy-winning HBO series returns on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 9:00–10:00 p.m. ET/PT, with new episodes debuting weekly on HBO and streaming on HBO Max. In this third season, creator, writer, director, and executive producer Sam Levinson — who also serves as a screenwriter alongside his longtime collaborators — propels the characters into the messy, unfiltered world of young adulthood.
The new season’s ensemble includes Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Dominic Fike, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, and Colman Domingo. New cast members joining the fray are Sharon Stone, Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Deadwyler, Rosalía, Trisha Paytas, Marshawn Lynch, Eli Roth, and Kadeem Hardison. Produced in partnership with A24, Euphoria remains one of HBO’s most-watched series, with the first two seasons earning 25 Emmy nominations and nine wins.

Where the Characters Stand
Season 3 jumps forward five years from where Season 2 left off, giving viewers a glimpse of the characters’ lives as young adults. Rue, once the high school addict, is now in Mexico, struggling with debt to drug dealer Laurie (Martha Kelly). Her voice-over in the trailer captures the precariousness of her new life: “I don’t know if life was exactly what I wished, but somehow, for the first time, I was beginning to have faith.”
Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) have left suburbia behind and are now married, though their relationship faces modern challenges: Cassie’s online content creation clashes with Nate’s expectations of married life.
Sweeney described Season 3 as
“unhinged… Sam’s all in when we say, ‘Let’s go crazier.’ Cassie is flawed on so many levels, but she does it all from a place of love, and watching her navigate this new world is wild.”
Jules (Hunter Schafer) has moved on to art school, carrying the weight of the past but also exploring new possibilities. Schafer reflected on the season’s emotional depth: “There’s a sense of anticipation and excitement about diving back in. If we do go back, that’s going to be tough… but we can channel it into making a beautiful Season 3.”
Other characters are equally transformed. Maddy (Alexa Demie) now works at a Hollywood talent agency, while Lexi (Maude Apatow) is assisting a TV showrunner played by Sharon Stone. The expanded cast signals that the show is exploring broader landscapes — both personal and professional — in the adult world.
