Key accolades in Patinkin’s career include a Tony Award® in 1980 for Evita, a 1995 Emmy® for Chicago Hope, and numerous nominations for Sunday in the Park with George, The Wild Party, and Homeland.
Odin, the All-Father, is described as “not physically imposing or particularly god-like—but looks can be deceiving.” As the most powerful Aesir god, Odin is a patriarch who leads with an iron fist and is an unparalleled seeker of knowledge. Paranoid, manipulative, and dangerous in his quest to prevent Ragnarök, Odin is set to serve as a formidable antagonist to Kratos, the series’ central character.
God of War follows the journey of father and son Kratos and Atreus as they attempt to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Along the way, Kratos strives to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus challenges his father to become a better human.
Previously announced cast members include Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Max Parker as Heimdall, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor. Emmy® Award–winning director Frederick E.O. Toye (Shōgun, The Boys, Fallout) will helm the first two episodes, with a two-season order already in place. Pre-production is underway in Vancouver, and casting is ongoing.
A Storied Career: From Broadway to Hollywood
Patinkin first rose to prominence on Broadway, winning a Tony Award® for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his role as Che in Evita (1980). He followed that with a Tony nomination in 1984 for originating the role of Georges Seurat in the Pulitzer Prize–winning musical Sunday in the Park with George.
On screen, Patinkin became a cultural touchstone with his portrayal of Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride (1987). He earned further acclaim in film and television with roles in Yentl (1983), Chicago Hope, and most recently as Saul Berenson on Homeland, for which he received multiple Emmy nominations. Across his career, Patinkin’s awards and nominations—documented by IMDb—include Tony, Emmy, CableACE, and Critics’ Choice honors, as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
